Entry Requirements: Minimum entry requirements are 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above, which MUST include English Language and Mathematics, plus any additional individual subject requirements.

Course Summary

How can we interpret the world around us? Whether that be through access to the digital innovations of the last thirty years or through the traditional channels of print and broadcast, we are bombarded with thousands of messages on a daily basis.

The A Level Media Studies course aims to equip students with the critical and practical skills to allow them to make sense of the increasingly complex times in which we live.

Course Details

Assessment: 70% written exam, 30% coursework. The two year course is divided into 3 components.

• Component 1: Media Products, Industries and Audiences

• Component 2: Television in the Global Age, Magazines: Mainstream and Alternative, Online Media

• Component 3: A cross-media production from a choice of briefs set by the awarding body, applying knowledge and understanding of the key concepts studied.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements: Grade 4 in English Language and Maths together with 3 other GCSE grades at grade 4 or above is the minimum requirement to enter Hillview Sixth Form.

SUBJECT SPECIFIC CRITERIA:

Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language. Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths. APS of 4.5 or above.
