Course Summary

Language skills are highly valued by employers. German is the second most commonly used scientific language in the world and Germany is the third largest contributor in the world to research and development.

Course Details

You will study a range of stimulating and challenging topics which will enable you to express yourself confidently and fluently in German, as well as deepening your understanding of German speaking culture. You will study technological and social change, the challenges of living in a multicultural society as well as aspects of German culture such as festivals and traditions, music, film and fashion.

You will learn how Germany's political landscape has changed and discuss the issues and influences that are still shaping its political landscape today. You will have the opportunity to study a German film and literary text, as well as carry out an independent research project of your choice to present in the speaking exam.

Lessons are varied and interactive with lots of conversation practice and class debates as well as grammar and translation exercises which will allow you to accurately express your own ideas and opinions.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will sit three exams: two written papers and a speaking exam.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs graded 9-5, including English plus a grade 6 or equivalent in German.

Equipment required

A self-study A Level grammar book to supplement your learning at home as well as copy of the literary text studied. You will also be required to purchase two A Level German revision and practice workbooks.
