Course Summary

This course looks at the various methods of advertising and producing ideas using different processes and materials. The subject explores the many diverse areas within advertising, including illustration, typography, packaging and corporate identities.

Course Details

You will explore different ways of producing work, incorporating drawing, painting, printing methods, digital imaging, and the use of Photoshop. Throughout the year, you will study how other designers and artists have produced work, enabling you to appreciate the design process.
You need to be self-motivated, want to learn, and be creative in your work and have a good imagination.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Year 1:

You will produce a series of projects which will reflect your learning and development with a broad range of foundation skills needed for this subject. The work will include critical thinking and understanding of others' work as well as good technical knowledge. You will produce a portfolio of work which will then be assessed at the end of the year.

Year 2:

If you are successful in your first year, you can progress to doing the full A Level which will enable you to develop your skills further. This will include more critical thinking and research with practical work. At the end of the year, you will submit your coursework and take a 15-hour practical exam.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs graded 9-4 including English or Maths at grade 4 or above plus a grade 4 or above in Art, Graphics or Photography.

Equipment required

You may be asked to purchase art and presentation materials along with print credits.
