Art & Design: Photography A Level

Exploring both traditional and digital photography, you will produce work which will show your development and understanding of Photography. You will learn how to use SLR/ digital cameras, how the studio works, develop black and white film, darkroom skills and various Photoshop techniques.

Throughout the year, you will learn how photographers have produced work to enable you to appreciate the processes that are needed to be successful. You need to be self-motivated and want to learn and develop new skills. There will be a location photoshoot and gallery visit to inspire your personal development and enrich your course

In your first year, you will produce a series of coursework projects which will reflect your learning and development of the subject. The work will include critical thinking and understanding of others' work, as well as good technical knowledge.

The second year will develop your skills further. You will develop an individual approach with a personal project and take a 15-hour practical exam at the end of the year.

You can study HND/degree courses offering further opportunities in the field of Photography. Photography can add to your portfolio for other higher-level studies in any creative subject. Careers can include photojournalism, editorial photography and advertising.
