Course Summary

A new and exciting course where students will learn about organised, competitive video gaming, where people play against each other online. It will also explore the Esports industry, events, and the range of career opportunities available. Students will get the opportunity to take part in British Esports Championship events.

This course gives the opportunity to develop both academic and practical skills in a vocationally focused study. Students will cultivate analytical, theoretical, and technical skills relevant to working practices in the Esports industry. The course is 100% internally assessed and can be combined with other Level 3 vocational/A Level subjects.

The course is 100% internally assessed.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs grades 9-4.

Equipment required

Students should be prepared to invest in resources for their productions, as well as a pair of over-ear gaming headphones with a 3.5mm jack and a pc gaming controller. There will be opportunities for students to attend various trips and workshops that may entail an additional cost. Students will also be expected to take part in a British Esports Championship event.

Participation in esports is designed to develop transferable skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving to name a few. The aim is to prepare students for a career in the esports industry or the within the digital technology sector. It also prepares students for a career in marketing, advertising, events management, and social media.

There are also several university courses that now focus solely on developing students' esports skills. For example, the University of Chichester, Staffordshire University, and the University of Northampton all offer degree courses in Esports. It could also lead to a range of apprenticeships and full-time employment.
