Course Summary

If you are passionate about theatre, then this is the right course for you! Whether you like performing, directing, script writing, staging, or designing, there is a place for you on A Level Drama. This course gives you the opportunity to work creatively in teams and enjoy sharing and experimenting with ideas in drama.

Course Details

Drama and Theatre (written exam)

  • Knowledge and understanding of drama and theatre
  • Study of two plays (texts can be used in the final exam)
  • Analysis and evaluation of the work of live theatre makers

Creating Original Drama (practical)

  • Process of creating devised drama
  • Performance of devised drama (students may contribute as a performer, designer or director)
  • Devised piece must be influenced by the work and methodologies of one prescribed practitioner

Making Theatre (practical)

  • Practical exploration and interpretation of three extracts, each from a different play
  • Methodology of a practitioner which is to be performed as a final assessed piece (students may contribute as a performer, designer, or director)
  • Reflective report analysing and evaluating theatrical interpretation

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed through a range of methods including written exam, working notebook, and devised performance.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs graded 9-5 including English and either Dance, Drama or Performing Arts.

Equipment required

Theatre trips will be arranged termly as part of the course. During the course you will need to buy the play texts.
