Drama and Theatre Studies A Level

If you are passionate about theatre, then this is the right course for you! Whether you like performing, directing, script writing, staging, or designing, there is a place for you on A Level Drama. This course gives you the opportunity to work creatively in teams and enjoy sharing and experimenting with ideas in drama.

Drama and Theatre (written exam)

• Knowledge and understanding of drama and theatre
• Study of two plays (texts can be used in the final exam)
• Analysis and evaluation of the work of live theatre makers

Creating Original Drama (practical)

• Process of creating devised drama
• Performance of devised drama (students may contribute as a performer, designer or director)
• Devised piece must be influenced by the work and methodologies of one prescribed practitioner

Making Theatre (practical)

• Practical exploration and interpretation of three extracts, each from a different play
• Methodology of a practitioner which is to be performed as a final assessed piece (students may contribute as a performer, designer, or director)
• Reflective report analysing and evaluating theatrical interpretation

You will be assessed through a range of methods including written exam, working notebook, and devised performance.

This A Level is excellent preparation for those wishing to pursue their interest at university or drama school, or for anyone who intends to progress to any other degree course in a related subject like English. It could lead to a career in acting, direction or dramaturgy, but also offers a range of transferable skills which could take you anywhere.
