Course Summary

This Level 3 course is primarily about focusing, developing and extending your fundamental skills in Art and Design. You will develop practical and creative skills that transfer easily into the workplace and are underpinned with a critical appreciation, knowledge and understanding.

Course Details

During this exciting and engaging full-time art and design course, you will acquire the knowledge and skills required for employment and develop the behaviours and attributes needed to progress and succeed in education and work. We will take you through an immersive and diverse set of units, each centred on one aspect of 2D or 3D Art and Design. From drawing, painting and sculpture, through printmaking, photography, fashion and textiles and onto illustration and graphic design. You will work on a series of practical assignments which link together thematically through the first year so that you can develop and find your true personal focus. The final project of the year will allow you to specialise in an area of personal interest and development. Your assignments often have a vocational focus and require you to respond to the needs of a client. Your work is often exhibited and uses in real-world situations. With this approach, you will work on a series of tasks, often to deadline and learn professionalism as well as excellence in your area of interest.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This is an exam-free qualification which means you will be assessed entirely by coursework assignments. Coursework is continuous and frequent, and you will receive regular formative assessments for each unit as well as frequent one-to-one tutorial support and feedback throughout all the projects.

Entry requirements

Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English or maths at grade 4. A portfolio of work will be required.

Your next steps...

Once you have finished this course, you will have a portfolio of work and be ready to progress onto our Art & Design Foundation in Eastbourne or Hastings. You may also think about starting an Art degree course with us in Hastings or look at other universities across the country.
