Course Summary

This course is designed to encourage students to develop an enthusiasm for chemistry, including practical skills, an understanding of concepts and principles, and the knowledge and skills for study at Higher Education.

Course Details

In the first year students will cover the basics of chemical reactions and also develop your practical skills. You will also cover modules on topics such as the periodic table, energy changes and reaction rates, as well as learning the basics of organic chemistry.
Students continue into a second year and cover topics which include: Quantitative chemistry, Enthalpy, Transition elements, Aromatic compounds, Polymers and Organic synthesis.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

At the end of the course students sit 3 written examinations, covering topics from both years. Students also receive a separately reported practical endorsement.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at 4 and above, including 6-5 in Combined Science or a 6 in Chemistry plus 5 in English and Maths.
