Course Summary

An academic study of how businesses operate on a local, national and international scale. Real business examples are used to enable all students to grasp the reality of businesses in the modern world.

Course Details

The A Level is structured into four themes:

  • Theme 1 Marketing and people
  • Theme 2 Managing business activities
  • Theme 3 Business decisions and strategy
  • Theme 4 Global business.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are three externally assessed papers at A Level. Each paper comprises 100 marks and are two hours in duration. There is a mix of data response questions that are of the short answer nature and extended open response questions. The A Level Paper 3 has a broad pre-released context to support the investigative nature of the qualification. This pre-release will help learners contextually prepare for the exam ahead. There is no external assessment at the end of the first year; the full A Level is achieved with the successful completion of the examinations at the end of year two. To achieve the full A Level under the new regulations you will need to take all of the assessed units together at the end of the second year of the course, including a repeat of those taken at the end of Year 12.
The course has opportunities to attend extra-curricular trips, including revision workshops and attending businesses for contextual experience.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 and above including a 5 in Business Studies / Merit in Enterprise and a 5 in English Language and Maths.
