Course Details

Physicists seek to understand the physical universe in order to predict its behaviour.

Physics, as a part of science, provides a picture of how the world behaves and how the laws of nature operate: it cannot answer the question why they operate in this way.

Teaching and learning methods include formal teaching, group work, a field trip, practical work, discussions and debates, films and videos and student-led presentations.

It is helpful to study A-Level Mathematics alongside Physics, although this is not essential. Other subjects which combine well with Physics include all sciences and technologies, geography, ICT, English.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Three written exam papers comprising 100% of the final grade for A level, two written papers for AS level. Practical skills are assessed separately but do not contribute to the final grade.

Module 1: Development of Practical Skills in Physics

Module 2: Foundations of Physics

Module 3: Forces and Motion

Module 4: Electrons, Waves and Photons

Module 5: Newtonian World and Astrophysics

Module 6: Particles and Medical Physics

Entry requirements

Grades 66 in Combined Science or grades 666 in separate Sciences and grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
