Course Details

Film is one of the main cultural innovations of the 20th century. Students will study a range of films such as Inception, Apocalypse Now, City of God and Pulp Fiction in relation to spectatorship, narrative, ideology, contexts and critical debates and theoretical perspectives.

Component 1: Varieties of film and filmmaking—Written examination (2.5 hours) 35%

Section A: Hollywood 1930-1990

Section B: American film since 2005

Section C: British film since 1995

Component 2: Global filmmaking perspectives—Written examination (2.5 hours) 35%

Section A: Global film

Section B: Documentary film

Section C: Film movements – Silent cinema One

Component 3: Short Film Production—NEA 30%


Entry requirements

Grade 5 or above in English Language and Literature at GCSE
