Learn how to record and edit sound, compose, remix and evaluate recorded sound in a hands-on and practical manner.

Sequenced Arrangement (20%)

Students learn how to use music software to create three pieces of work. Both sequenced pieces involve the editing of music played in using a controller keyboard. The recording involves using microphones and studio techniques to create a polished reproduction of an existing recording.

Exam - Listening and Analysing (40%)

Students are given 1h45m to answer questions based on the exam CD. This exam covers the history of music technology from Jazz through to Dubstep. Extended writing is required in section B where students are asked to learn about two different genres (these change each year).

There are no prior learning or other requirements for this qualification. Students who would benefit most from studying this qualification are likely to have a level 2 qualification (such as a GCSE in Music or BTEC Music Technology) It would also be an advantage to have some basic piano/keyboard skills and/or an ability to play another instrument or voice, as well as a good pass grade at GCSE Science.
