Course Summary

German A-Level students develop confidence and effective communication skills, as well as a thorough understanding of the culture and society of today’s Germany and German-speaking world.

Course Details

Topics studied: changes in German society; the media, culture and traditions in the German-speaking world; immigration and multicultural society in German; the Reunification of Germany

Either a text and a film, or two texts

Independent research project on a topic of your choice (related to society or culture in the German-speaking world)

How will it be delivered and assessed?

100% examinations

Paper 1: Listening, reading and translation (German – English) : 2hrs, 40%

Paper 2: Written response to works and translation (English- German): 2hrs 40mins, 30%

Paper 3: Speaking (Internally conducted and externally assessed): 21-23mins, 30%

Entry requirements

6 at GCSE German, an enjoyment of language learning, an interest in culture and society, a good memory and a logical mind.
