Course Summary

This course is an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience and knowledge in an ever-growing field. It's an ideal choice for those wishing to pursue a career within a massage discipline, set up their own business, or further their own development.

This qualification provides the skills needed to work effectively and efficiently within the f ield of sports massage. Through practical and theory lessons, you will develop your skills and ability to work safely and effectively on soft tissue dysfunction. You will be required to develop your knowledge of anatomy and physiology, an understanding of the principles of health and fitness, professional practice, and sports massage treatments.

Course Details

You will cover five mandatory units:

  • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
  • Principles of health and fitness
  • Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
  • Professional practice in sports massage
  • Sports massage treatments

Students will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge of taping and strapping as well as first aid training.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Students will be assessed through the following:

  • Completion of workbooks
  • Variety of practical and knowledge-based observations
  • External multiple choice on Anatomy and Physiology

Entry requirements

At least four to five GCSEs graded 9-5 including English and Maths. It is advisable to have a strong scientific interest and an interest in a variety of sports. This course is usually taken after completing another Level 3 qualification.

Equipment required

Students will need to purchase a practical kit which they will be expected to wear to all lessons. They will also need to purchase insurance, towels, and equipment (foldaway table and lotions/oils for their own practice).

Your next steps...

Progress directly to work as an independent Sports Masseur or work within a health or fitness centre as a sports masseur. Additionally, students could continue to study a Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Work.
