Course Summary
This course is designed to provide high quality, employment-related learning with a focus on the animal care sector. Students considering this course should have an interest in working with animals in the future.
During the course, you will develop your subject knowledge and employability skills, as well as practical skills related to the care and management of animals including mammalian, avian, invertebrate and reptilian species.
Course Details
The course consists of GCSEs in Science, English, and Maths, which you choose at enrolment depending on your qualifications, to help prepare you for the animal science aspects of our Level 3 courses.
Alongside this, you will complete an additional unit in Animal Care. This will cover many aspects of the care and management of animals including animal science, behaviour and husbandry. There will be opportunity to learn skills such as animal first aid as well as developing your knowledge of Biology.
You will also develop your team working, time management and organisational skills, which will better equip you for further study or the workplace.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will take GCSE exams in line with the science GCSEs you choose. Animal Care unit: you will be assessed on your skills during the course and develop a portfolio evidencing what you have achieved. This will include research and presentation skills. You will also be expected to complete five days of relevant work experience.

A selection of grade 3's and 4's in your GCSE subjects.

If you choose to carry on with your study of animals, you can progress to a related Level 3 qualification including the T Level in Animal Care and Management or the BTEC Extended Certificate in Animal Management.
