Course Summary
This qualification aims to provide you with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the barbering industry.
Course Details
This course covers all the core skills you need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the barbering industry.
You will study the following mandatory content:
- Follow health and safety practice in the salon
- Salon reception duties
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
- Display stock to promote sales in a salon
- Working in the hair industry
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Cut men’s hair
- Cut facial hair
- Styling men’s hair
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
You will work with local employers who contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. You will take part in structured workplacements within the local area. To complete the year, all students take part in an end of year show. This is linked to a unit and allows you to showcase your work.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
- A service portfolio including evidence of practical service carried out with proficiency
- Practical assessments are pass or fail. Online exams for a range of units.

Entry requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at grades 3/2 and above and a genuine interest in the hair industry.
