Course Summary

The NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity (Sport & Exercise Science) is suited to students who wish to continue their academic studies in a specialised educational area. The course provides a solid grounding for students wishing to enter the world of Sport and its associated industries, either through progression to university or by entering employment. There has been a large increase in the importance of performance analysis within a variety of sports such as the use of VAR and GPS data, this course will help you to learn more about this ever-changing element of sports performance analysis and help you move onto a degree in performance analysis as well as therapy or other subjects.

Course Details

Units studied could include Exercise Health & Lifestyle, Preparing for a career in sport and physical activity, Principles of Anatomy & Physiology, Fitness Testing for Sport & Exercise, Psychology for Sports Performance, Sports Nutrition, Current Issues in Sport, Sports Injuries, Sport & Exercise Massage. The NCFE programme will use continuous assessments during the year. You will be able to track your performance as you work towards the pass, merit and distinction grades. Methods of assessment will include written essays and reports, presentations, practical demonstrations, coaching sessions, posters, leaflets, experiments, interviews and discussions. The programme is a combination of practical training and classroom theory sessions. Each lesson will provide you with assessment opportunities as you work to achieve your goals and targets. You will need an active passion in sport and your tutors will encourage you to discuss your own achievements as well as the issues in modern sport.

Methods of assessment will include: exams, reports, presentations, practical demonstrations, fitness instructing sessions, posters, leaflets, experiments, interviews and discussions.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade 4 or above. These must include English and/or Maths; Attend and participate in 1 taster day.
