Course Summary

All of your work will follow a vocational scenario or context that simulates a real-world situation. This course is 100 % coursework. You will present your work in a range of formats. You will be assessed on your research, development and experimentation and final outcomes and you will be encouraged to develop your work and professional practice through evaluation and self-reflection.

Course Details

This is an introductory course aimed at learners who are new to the subject area and wish to explore a range of materials and techniques in a fun and creative manner.   This is studio environment and a more creative atmosphere to school and is suitable for those people who would like a change in their environment to one which is supportive, fun and creative. You will be introduced to a range of media including pastels, relief, print-making, sculpture, feltmaking, paint, ink, scuplture and more. We will also be creative with a time-based piece of work. You wil go on gallery trips and visit creative establishments to aid with your learning along the way. Our Education Programme includes opportunities for you to develop your English and maths skills as required, depending on your GCSE results upon entry.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at Grades D-G/3-1, including English and maths at minimum Grade E/2. You will need a positive school report/recommendation/reference from your school/tutor. You will be required to attend an interview with your portfolio of art and design work to demonstrate your practical and creative skills. You also need a positive recommendation or reference from your school/tutor. If you don’t have formal qualifications to meet these requirements, we will be able to assess your readiness during the admission process.

The Level 1 Diploma allows students to progress into their preferred specialist Level 2 Diploma in Art or Creative Digital Design.
