We are studying AQA History A Level which allows you to:
Understand the significance of historical events
Understand the role of individuals in history and the nature of change over time
Gain a deeper understanding of the past through political, social, economic and cultural perspectives

Course Content:
The A Level History qualification has two exam-assessed units and one 3500-4500 word coursework piece. We also complete an AS Exam in the first year.
The units on which you will be examined are:
HIS1H Tsarist and Communist Russia, 1855–1964
This option allows students to study in breadth issues of change, continuity, cause and consequence in this period. Topics included range from:
Emancipation of the Serfs in 1861
1905 Revolution
Impact of World War One on Russia
1917 October Revolution and the Fall of Tsarism in Russia
Russian Civil War
Stalinist Russia
Post-war Russia
HIS2S The Making of Modern Britain, 1951–2007
This option provides for the study in depth of the key political, economic, social and international changes which helped to mould Britain in the second half of the 20th century.
Topics range from:
Suez Crisis
Entry into the EEC
Winter of Discontent
Thatcherism
New Labour
Development of Multiculturalism in Britain.

Entry requirements
Students will require a minimum of five 9-4 grades at GCSE, including English and a grade 6 in either History or English Language.
Your next steps...
History is a very sought after A Level because of its transferable skills. This means it is a subject that is a requirement or a preferred option for a variety of degrees such as Law, Classics, Philosophy and Theology. Some careers that lead from a History A level or History degree are Law as a Solicitor or Barrister, Teaching, Advertising, Banking or Journalism.
