Course Summary

Within the course, you will be given a range of projects to complete throughout the year which will prepare you for your final major project that is internally assessed and externally moderated by UAL. In Year 1, you will complete Unit 1 to Unit 3. In Year 2, you will complete Unit 4 to Unit 6.The overall grade for the qualification is based on Unit 6: Specialist Creative Outcome.
All units will be graded against the Assessment Objectives set by UAL, with Unit 6 being graded either a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Course Details

Equivalent to 3 A Levels, a total of 72-168 UCAS points, depending on grades achieved. This is highly creative course designed to equip you with the skills for your journey into a career in the dynamic, exciting fashion industry of today. From sketchbook to catwalk, you will develop a broad range of creative and technical skills in fashion, textiles and garment construction. This course is based in our dedicated fashion studios and will introduce you to a broad range of creative and technical skills in fashion and textiles, such as fashion design, pattern cutting, garment construction, styling, textile techniques, and fashion illustration. You will be working with industry professionals who will support you in developing the design, construction and presentation skills needed to progress onto the next level of education or to work in the industry. There will be opportunities to collaborate with the hair, beauty, photography, acting and dance departments in pop-up projects throughout the course, you will increase your skills and knowledge by completing creative industry relevant projects. As research and idea development are central to your study, you will have the opportunity to gain inspiration from visits to galleries, fashion retail, museums and other locations, plus carry out contextual research to inform your projects. You will also be supported in the development of a portfolio and preparations for progression into university, apprenticeship or work. Our students gain places at major universities such as Central St. Martins, London College of Fashion, LCC, Chelsea College of Art, School of Fashion & Textiles UCA Epsom, Ravensbourne, AUB, Nottingham Trent, Norwich UCA, Fashion Retail Academy At the end of each academic year your work may feature in a fashion show as part of the College end of year show.

Entry requirements

Minimum of four GCSEs grade 4 - 9 including English and preferably maths and one creative subject. Or an equivalent Level 2 Qualification in Art and Design at merit or above. You will need a positive school report/recommendation/reference from your school/tutor. We also require a portfolio of work to be presented at interview. You will also be set an interview task when you apply to bring along to your interview.
