Engineering Extended Certificate

This course is ideal for those students who are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering or going on to a higher-level apprenticeship. The Extended Certificate is a one A Level equivalent, so it is taken alongside two other subjects.

You will study units on Engineering Principles, Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team, and Engineering Product Design and Manufacture as well as one unit which may be Maintenance and Monitoring or CAD.

The course covers the theory of engineering principles including relevant Maths and Physics. Within some of the units, there is practical work involving CAD and machining in the workshop.

The course is partly assessed via exams and part coursework. 67% is externally assessed via two exams, one in each year.

At least five GCSEs graded 9-4 including English and 5-5 or above in Double Award Science and 5 or above in Maths. You would ideally have studied the higher-tier content for Maths and Science as there is significant mathematical and physics content.

Students completing this course can progress on to study Engineering at university if they have studied A Level Mathematics alongside, go on to a higher-level apprenticeship, or go into employment.
