The Careers Hub provide a range of training and upskilling opportunities for our school and college Careers Leaders and teaching staff. We run three free careers staff Continued Professional Development (CPD) days each academic year with speakers from education and business. Each event focuses on specific Gatsby Benchmarks. The CPD days also provide great opportunities for delegates to network and share best practice and challenges with other careers staff.

Careers Hub Forums

The Hub also runs three termly Careers Hub Forums which offer a further opportunity for Careers Leaders to meet and network whilst sharing and receiving updates on the careers education landscape.

Careers Leader Training

The Careers Hub team provides ongoing support to Careers Leaders who can speak to their Enterprise Coordinator to arrange funded CPD days for careers staff, business volunteer support for careers activities and other ad-hoc training and development needs.

In addition to the support offered by the Hub, the Careers and Enterprise Company offer training courses to help Careers Leaders improve their understanding of the role and develop the skills required to strategically embed a careers programme. Whether you are new to the role or highly experienced, there are training courses designed for all levels that will help you to inspire young people to find their next best step.

Find out more about training courses, information and updates on CPD available through the Careers Enterprise Company here.

 Teacher Encounters

A teacher encounter (TE) provides an opportunity for teachers to engage directly with employers to see and learn about the different career pathways relevant to their subjects, and to observe how their subject is applied practically in business.

Teachers can then meaningfully use their insights to enrich their curriculum teaching, helping their students build a deeper understanding of opportunities, connections between learning and industry, and the essential skills that need to be honed for different roles. There are a number of pathways and routes into employment, in particular technical and vocational options like apprenticeships. This knowledge can employer educators to effectively support students to take their best next step.

Teacher encounters can take many forms but usually is a half or whole day working with employer. Within East Sussex, the Careers Hub have run four different TE events over the past 2 years including a focus on the construction and engineering, tech and digital, health and social care, and retrofit sectors.

If you are interested in knowing more, either as an employer to host a TE event or a teacher who is interested in attending a TE day, please contact the Career Hub at careers.hub@eastsussex.gov.uk
