Entry Requirements: - Students wishing to study 3 Level 3 courses will be required to achieve 5+ GCSEs at grade 5 and above including English and Mathematics. However, some subjects have additional requirements in terms of the grades required. The Marsh Academy operates a sliding scale of qualifications which are outlined on the Marsh Academy website. There is scope for students to study 2 Level 3 subjects and also studying some Level 2 subjects. Students who wish to study two subjects must have attained 4+GCSEs at grade 5 or above.

Course Summary

Students who wish to study Triple Sport, worth three Level 3 qualifications must select Sport Extended Certificate, Double Sport and Triple Sport .

BTEC sport is a broad basis of study for the sports sector. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study. Students studying this qualification will learn about a wide range of sports and topics vital for a greater understanding of sport and its associated areas for development. The qualification is equal to the size of two A-Levels.

Course Details

Learners will study mandatory units:

• Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology

• Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being • Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry

• Unit 4: Sports Leadership

• Unit 7: Practical Sports Performance

• Unit 8: Coaching for Performance

• Unit 9: Research Methods in Sport

• Unit 19: Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity

• Unit 22: Investigating Business in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry

• Unit 23: Skill Acquisition in Sport.

Learners will also be taught six optional units that have been designed to support progression to the range of sector-related courses in higher education, and to link with relevant occupational areas.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

The units are assessed in the same way as in the Diploma with the addition of:

• Unit 8: Coaching for Performance- internally assessed

• Unit 9: Research Methods in Sport – internally assessed

• Unit 19: Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity- externally assessed

All optional units are internally assessed


Entry requirements

A minimum of a Level 2 Merit of grade 4 in PE in addition to the published entry requirements.
