Painting And Decorating Level 1 Extended Certificate

Join us for this Level 1 course in Painting and Decorating as we give you the perfect introduction to this satisfying career. We'll tell you more about the industry, stress the importance of health and safety, and then show you the range of tools and equipment you'll need to hang wallpaper and create decorative effects.

During the course you will gain an insight into the variety of buildings and structures that painters and decorators work on. You will be able to learn some of the fundamental techniques that are used in the industry and practise them in our purpose built workshop. You will learn how to prepare surfaces for decorating, apply paint using a brush or roller, and how to paste and hang paper. English and maths is an important part of this course During the course you will cover topics including: * Health, safety and welfare in construction * Principles of building construction * Access equipment and working platforms * Preparing surfaces for decoration * Applying paint systems by brush and roller * Applying foundation and plain papers * Producing specialist decorative finishes

Assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. Practical tasks will make up 60% of the assessment, coursework will make up 10% and 30% will be made up of exams. Constructive feedback from your tutor will help you to improve and progress towards recognised industrial standards.

You will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve Level 1 English and maths by the end of the course through an initial assessment.

On completion of the course you can progress onto the Level 2 Painting and Decorating or start an apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating. With additional training you may wish to start a career in the industry as a Painter and decorator
