We recommend students purchase a pair of headphones to use on the course to enable students to familiarise themselves with their headphone sound which is hugely important for industry and production techniques. We also ask that students bring musical instruments to classes as often as possible excluding large/heavy instuments!

Course Summary

This one-year course, will prepare you for employment or for progression to our Level 3 Music Production course. Practical project work lets you establish your interests and strengths, before progressing to either a performance-based specialist pathway, or a production based one. There are no examinations on this course.

Course Details

The one-year Level 2 UAL Music Production course is designed to prepare you for employment in the music industry, self-employment or for progression to our Level 3 UAL Music Production Diploma. You will undertake a wide range of project work to establish your interests and strengths, before progressing to either a performance based specialist pathway, or a production (recording, producing, engineering) based one. Examples of work include recording a multi-track album, performance techniques and session musician skills, working as a self-employed entity in the industry and being commissioned to compose music to specific briefs. You will produce your own solo album, help organise and run at least one of a series of performances. We have excellent facilities to help you develop technically, creatively and professionally.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

All assessment is through practical, vocationally relevant projects which will help you improve and expand upon your current skill set. The course is predominantly practice based, where you will be guided throughout the course towards a sustainable career. There are no examinations.

Entry requirements

Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English or maths at grade 3. Basic ability on a musical instrument to be shared at interview.

Your next steps...

This course can provide a pathway to both our Level 3 UAL Music Production Diploma and careers in the music industry and beyond, including with the BBC. After the Level 3 course,students may enter higher education, which includes our own foundation degree and degree in Music Production and Creative Recording, awarded by the University of Brighton.
