Course Summary
This highly practical course is an ideal starting point for those students with few formal qualifications. Covering the basics of Horticulture along with estate maintenance skills you will also cover the process of preparing soil for growing plants and skills for growing produce. These skills are learnt in our custom-built commercial glasshouse and poly tunnels. Units will also take place on our commercial farm where you will also have the opportunity to work with livestock.

This introductory diploma course provides the skills and knowledge needed to progress onto higher level study at Level 2.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Teaching is a mix of theory and practical sessions. When a practical session occurs, these are generally supported by a technical instructor along with the main unit lecturer. Assessment is through a range of styles including practical assessments, photographic and video evidence logs, workbooks and written assignments.
Entry requirements
Minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade 2 or equivalent including English & Maths
Your next steps...
Successful completion of this qualification will allow you to apply for a Level 2 qualification. Students can progress to the BTEC Level 2 in Horticulture. Many students also seek part time or full-time employment.
