Course Details

This is a one-year, full time course consisting of a range of subjects that enable students to achieve a sound foundation in equine studies preparing them for employment or apprenticeships within the industry. The course offers students exceptional opportunity to gain hands on experience to develop their practical skills in horse husbandry and riding. The course structure comprises a range of units designed to provide students with a sound understanding of the principals of horse care. There are mandatory units and a choice between two optional units. Duties on the College Yard, and work experience, are also both core to this qualification.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Students are assessed throughout the course using assignments, tests, practical observations and external assessments. Students are expected to relate theory to practice in all assessments.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 4 GCSEs C - D / 4 - 3 Grade or equivalent (Level 1 Diploma), which should include GCSE in English OR maths.
Students who wish to take the riding option will need at least 1 year's experience of riding horses, and demonstrate that they can confidently ride independently in walk, trot and canter in a group.
