Entry Requirements: - Students wishing to study 3 Level 3 courses will be required to achieve 5+ GCSEs at grade 5 and above including English and Mathematics. However, some subjects have additional requirements in terms of the grades required. The Marsh Academy operates a sliding scale of qualifications which are outlined on the Marsh Academy website. There is scope for students to study 2 Level 3 subjects and also studying some Level 2 subjects. Students who wish to study two subjects must have attained 4+GCSEs at grade 5 or above.

Course Summary
Film Studies introduces students to a wide variety of films in order to broaden their knowledge and understanding of film and the range of responses films can generate. Production work is a crucial part of this course and is integral to students' study of film. Studying a diverse range of films from several different contexts is designed to give learners the opportunity to apply their knowledge and understanding of how films are constructed to their own filmmaking and screenwriting. This is intended to enable learners to create high quality film and screenplay work as well as provide an informed filmmaker's perspective on their own study of film.
Course Details
Students will study a wide range of film including but not limited to Hollywood 1930-1990, American and British independent film, silent, short and experimental film students will also study global and documentary film focusing on cinematography, mise en scène editing, sound and performance. Students will also delve into spectatorship and narrative surrounding film as well as critical debates. Students will also create showcasing the film making or screen writing skills developed in the course.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
There are two examinations, each worth 35% of the final grade. The rest of the grade (30%) is made of an assessment of production work. The exams are 150 mins long and consist of answering extended responses across both examinations.
