Course Summary

Develop and apply your knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation in writing. Explore the contexts of the work you are reading, considering the interpretations of others and possible ways of responding to them. Set texts will consist of both classics and modern works of literature including prose, poetry and drama. In the second year you will complete coursework based on post-1900 texts, developing independent skills of reading and research.

Course Details

The course aims to encourage learners to develop their interest in and enjoyment of literature and literary studies. You will read widely and independently both set texts and others that you have selected for yourself. You will develop and apply your knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation in writing. You will explore the contexts of the work you are reading, considering the interpretations of others and possible ways of responding to them. Set texts will consist of both classics and modern works of literature including prose, poetry and drama. In the second year you will complete coursework based on post-1900 texts, developing independent skills of reading and research.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

There will be two examinations at the end of the second year (80%) and one piece of coursework (20%).

Entry requirements

Our general entry criteria to study 3 A-Levels is: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 5. For a mixed Level 3 programme the criteria are: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 4. Subject specific entry criteria apply: A GCSE grade 5 in English Language.
