Course Summary

Cybersecurity is one of the fastest-growing areas in the digital world. Every organisation relies on secure systems, safe data, and people who can identify and prevent attacks. This course prepares you to step confidently into that world. You will explore how digital systems work, how cyber threats emerge, and how businesses protect themselves. You’ll build strong technical skills through practical tasks, challenges, labs and real investigations. If you want a career with purpose, problem solving and real responsibility, this is the ideal route.

Course Details

Year 1 - Core Digital Foundations

You’ll begin by building the essential knowledge every cybersecurity professional needs. You will explore how IT systems operate, how data flows across networks and how digital decisions affect real people. You’ll take part in hands-on activities where you break problems down, analyse risks and understand the impact of cyber incidents.

You will learn:

How analysts break complex problems into clear, manageable tasks

How digital systems and networks communicate

How data is stored, structured and protected

How to spot weaknesses using proper risk assessment methods

How laws like GDPR and the Computer Misuse Act shape digital work

How organisations plan for security and respond to incidents

How to approach emerging threats and technologies with confidence

How to manage a project from start to finish in the Employer Set Project

By the end of the year, you’ll have a strong technical base and the mindset needed for cyber work.

You’ll move from theory to real-world cybersecurity tasks, working through scenarios that reflect what professionals deal with every day.

You will learn how to:

Investigate and secure systems, devices and networks

Carry out vulnerability assessments and interpret the results

Spot suspicious activity and analyse potential threats

Recommend realistic and effective solutions to reduce risk

Use security tools found in professional environments

Make ethical decisions when dealing with sensitive data or incidents

Create clear, accurate security reports used for business decisions

You won’t just understand cybersecurity. You’ll be able to apply it with confidence and purpose
