Course Summary
You may only select this course if you have chosen the Academic & Vocational Pathway.
This course covers key scientific principles in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It aims to inspire and enthuse you to consider a career in the Science sector. The course will support progression to a more specialised level 3 vocational Science course or an apprenticeship. In Applied Science typical employment opportunities may be as a laboratory technician or in roles involving sample analysis in environmental protection or healthcare.
BTECs are popular courses because they engage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace. These skills include: teamworking; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively; and accurately completing administrative tasks and processes.
Course delivery
You will have eight lessons per fortnight with the external assessed unit being delivered during terms 1-3 to give you a broad understanding of some of the science theories which will support understanding with application in the coursework units. Questions will be used in lessons to apply understanding and to get familiar with examination style questions. Mini assessments to support memory recall will be included throughout. Practical work is included where possible to support visual and kinaesthetic learners. Checklists are provided for all units.
