Brickwork Level 2 Diploma

Learn how to build cavity walling, form masonry structures such as arches, and how to construct solid and cavity walling and isolated and attached piers. You will also learn how to interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures and carry out thin joint masonry and masonry cladding.

This course will allow you to further your understanding of the construction industry and give you the opportunity to develop higher level skills in bricklaying. We know most students would like to learn as apprentices but, if you don�t yet have an employer who is able to offer you an apprenticeship place, this is a great alternative way to continue learning your chosen trade. The course includes lots of opportunities to progress your practical brickwork skills. Employers� organisations were involved in writing this qualification and because of this you can be confident that the course reflects what employers need. Employers want workers who are skilful, but who also really understand why they need to work in a particular way. This is where the theory part of your course comes in. As your practical skills progress, you will also need to be sure that your understanding of the principles behind the skills is at the same standard. You will need this level of understanding to work on site in the modern construction industry. You will also need to understand the theory element in order to succeed at the next level and progress your career. Employers also value people who can work independently and we will continue to support you in developing independent working skills whilst you are on the course. Your practical and theory lessons will not fill the whole of the working week, so you should plan to give at least an extra half day to the independent learning tasks your tutors will give you.

By a series of practical tasks in the workshop and unit end tests. There will also be a final online test and summative practical test that will take up to 28 hours and involves four separate tasks including building a garden wall with an attached pier.

Successful completion of the Level 1 course and GCSE English or maths at grade 3.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress to Level 3 Brickwork or, if you obtain suitable employment, you could continue your studies to achieve an Apprenticeship.
