Daytime/working hours
A range of specified PPE and other items, costing approximately �160, will be required for this course. In addition you will also be required to provide safety boots, overalls and navy/black polo shirt. There are also a number of opportunities throughout the year for various construction related trips which may also incur a cost.
Course Summary
Join us for this Level 1 Bricklaying course as we give you the perfect introduction to this important aspect of construction. We'll tell you more about the industry, highlight the variety of tasks, and show you how to set out and build block walls and structures.
Course Details
During this one-year course you will learn a range of basic bricklaying skills. You will start with learning the basic principles of bricklaying, and then get hands on with brick and block laying techniques in our purpose built workshop. You will understand the importance of health, safety and welfare in the workshop and on a construction site. You will also gain an understanding of how buildings are set out and basic building methods. During this one-year course you will cover topics including: * Health, safety and welfare in construction * Principles of building construction * Building methods * Basic bricklaying skills * Basic block-laying skills * Setting-out buildings
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. Practical tasks will make up 60% of the assessment, 10% will be coursework and 30% will be made up of exams. Constructive feedback from your tutor will help you to improve and progress towards recognised industrial standards.
Entry requirements
You will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve Level 1 English and maths by the end of the course through an initial assessment.
Your next steps...
On completion of the course you could progress onto the Level 2 Bricklaying course or start an Apprenticeship in Bricklaying. With some additional training you may also look to start your career in the industry and move into roles such as a Bricklayer, Site manager and a Property developer.
