Course Summary
AS/A level Psychology at Hailsham Community College is a dynamic, engaging and rewarding subject with a long history of student success. The focus of the course is on understanding human behaviour and thought as well as how and why psychologists conduct research.
Course Details
Students will explore a number of topics that will develop their knowledge and many other important skills, such as being able to analyse and evaluate. The AS Level course covers topics on the human memory, the attachments we make to others, approaches used in psychology, how we are influenced by others (social influence) and what makes people abnormal (psychopathology).
In addition to the thought provoking topics at AS Level students who continue to the A level will study stimulating options such as relationships, schizophrenia and forensic psychology.
Many of these topic areas are closely linked to other AS/A Level subjects and so choosing a selection of them as a package may work extremely well. Recommended subject choice links are sociology, health and social care, law, biology and physical education although it should be noted that AS/A Level psychology will enhance the experience of students choosing a diverse range of subjects.
How will I learn?
Learning will take place through classroom teaching as well as the use of flipped teaching. The lessons are based on class and group discussion, peer teaching, independent learning as well as potential trips such as a visit to London Zoo to look at treatments of phobias.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Your A Level Psychology will be assessed through a series of exams at the end of two years (A level). These examinations will have a mixture of multiple choice, short answer, long answer and essay questions. Assessment in the classroom will use questions that match the structure of the examinations.
