Course Summary

Performing Arts (Stage Management)

The course is divided into a range of units which comprise two core units completed in Year 2 of the course: ● Production Arts Workshop ● Technical Stage Operations And other specialist units selected from: ● Stage Lighting Operations ● Stage Sound Operations ● Stage Sound Design ● Stage Technical Maintenance ● Stage Lighting Design ● Live Sound for the Stage How will I learn? Rehearsal and preparation for performance are, of course, fundamental to the way in which the units are structured. In addition there will be a range of research tasks to develop expertise in a number of areas to do with Stage Management.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is made in a number of ways: the contribution that students make in rehearsal is noted by the teachers on a lesson by lesson basis; students record progress in a logbook which is formally assessed at the end of a unit; and, of course, each performance is recorded by video and assessed by the teacher.

Entry requirements

Students have usually completed Level 2 BTEC or GCSE courses in the field of performing arts, although this is not essential. Commitment, self-discipline, a willingness to work as a team and take on the challenge of production work at an advanced level is fundamental to success.
