Entry Requirements - A minimum of six separately identifiable GCSE subjects at grade 6 or above, OR an average of grade 6 in the best six GCSE subjects achieved

At least a grade 5 in both English and Mathematics For most subjects at A Level, a grade 6 in the subject at GCSE is required. However, for A Level Mathematics a grade 7 is required, and for Further Mathematics a grade 8 is necessary

Lively, relevant and controversial…there are many ways to describe A level politics but there is no denying that it Is one of the most interesting and engaging qualifications you can choose.

This course will introduce you to the British and American political systems, the theories which underpin them and those who seek power within them.

Politics is taught through a lively, investigative approach and offers challenge to all abilities.

A wide range of methods and techniques is employed, including research, presentation, debate, roleplay, drama, AV and ICT. All help to stimulate deeper understanding and sharpen analytical skills.

The Politics A-level curriculum is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the

academic study of politics. The goal of the curriculum is to foster critical thinking, encourage active

citizenship, and prepare students for further study in politics, law, and related fields.

Our aim is to equip NKS Politics students with the knowledge and confidence to actively engage in

political discourse relating to the UK, the USA and political ideas, thus helping empower them to become

politically astute citizens.

We strive to instill in our students a sense of inquisitiveness about the world around them and its

governing mechanisms.

Our curriculum endeavors to cultivate students' ability to pose insightful inquiries, think critically,

evaluate evidence, analyse arguments, and develop their own perspectives and judgments.

Studying Politics facilitates students' comprehension of the intricacies of society and government, the

diverse forces and factors that impact politics and society, and the debates that have influenced and

continue to shape our contemporary world.

Paper 1 Government and politics of the UK

Written exam: 2 hours 33⅓ % of A level

Questions: a mixture of medium length ‘explain’ and essay style questions.

Paper 2 The government and politics of the USA

Comparative politics

Written exam: 2 hours 33⅓ % of A level

Questions: a mixture of medium length ‘explain’ and essay style questions.

Paper 3 Political ideas Written exam: 2 hours 33⅓ % of A level

Questions: a mixture of medium length ‘explain’ and essay style questions.

GCSE grade 5 or above in a humanities subject such as History, Geography. Politics

Students need to be comfortable with plenty of extended reading and writing.
