Entry Requirements: - Students wishing to study 3 Level 3 courses will be required to achieve 5+ GCSEs at grade 5 and above including English and Mathematics. However, some subjects have additional requirements in terms of the grades required. The Marsh Academy operates a sliding scale of qualifications which are outlined on the Marsh Academy website. There is scope for students to study 2 Level 3 subjects and also studying some Level 2 subjects. Students who wish to study two subjects must have attained 4+GCSEs at grade 5 or above.

Course Summary

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) in Health and Social Care is equivalent to one A Level. It is designed for post-16 learners who are interested in pursuing careers in the health and social care sector. The qualification combines theoretical knowledge with practical application and is suitable for progression to university, apprenticeships, or employment

Course Details

Mandatory Units:

• Unit 1: Human Lifespan and Development

o Covers physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development across life stages

o Assessed via external examination

• Unit 2: Human Biology and Health

o Focuses on body systems, physiological functioning, and the impact of disease

o Assessed via external examination

• Unit 3: Principles of Health and Social Care Practice

o Explores values, legislation, and professional practice

o Assessed via internally marked coursework

Optional Units (one chosen by the centre):

• Unit 4: Health, Policy and Wellbeing

• Unit 5: Promoting Health Education

• Unit 6: Safe Environments in Health and Social Care

• Unit 7: Health Science


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is through a combination of external examinations and internally assessed coursework. Units 1 and 2 are externally assessed, while Unit 3 and the chosen optional unit are assessed through assignments set and marked by the centre.

Entry requirements

A Merit in Level 2 Health and Social Care or Childcare, in addition to the published entry requirements.

Equipment required

No specialist equipment is required to study this course.
