Course Summary
The EPQ offers a fantastic opportunity for you to delve into and expand your knowledge of any topic that fascinates you or one that is related to your planned university or career progression route. If there is a question you have always wanted to ask, a topic or subject you would like to know more about, or you would like to develop your research skills beyond those usually developed at A level then selecting to complete an EPQ alongside your other course choices might be right for you.
Course Details
You will be supported to develop the skills needed to complete a project of this type by your teacher. In addition, the choice of topic you make will determine what you will learn. There is the possibility of completing a project on almost any topic of interest to you! The topic could reflect a passion or hobby you have outside of college, a subject you wish you could study at A Level but cannot, an area related to a subject you are studying and wish you could know more about, a topic related to a degree choice or simply something that you just want to spend time learning about!
How will it be delivered and assessed?
A01 Manage: Identify, design, plan and carry out a project, applying a range of skills, strategies and methods to achieve objectives
AO2 Use Resources: Research, critically select, organise and use information, and select and use a range of resources. Analyse data, apply relevantly and demonstrate understanding of any links, connections and complexities of the topic
AO3 Develop and Realise: Select and use a range of skills, including, where appropriate, new technologies and problem solving, to take decisions critically and achieve planned outcomes.
AO4 Review: Evaluate all aspects of the extended project, including outcomes in relation to stated objectives and own learning and performance. Select and use a range of communication skills and media to present evidenced project outcomes and conclusions in an appropriate format.

The EPQ is excellent preparation for university study. The research skills you will develop and your experience of the assessment process is good prepatory experience for university. If you are not planning a university application, the EPQ will allow you to develop knowledge of an area relevant to your next steps and demonstrate a wide variety of transferable skills.
