BTEC Uniformed Protective Services

This course enables you to develop your confidence and interpersonal skills; there is a strong emphasis on developing personal discipline through individual and team activities. During the course you may take part in visits to a variety of Public Service organisations, listen to talks from guest speakers in the industry, and complete a residential.

The subject is studied alongside other BTEC or A Level subjects.

The course consists of a range of mandatory, specialist and optional units studied over two years. You will be assessed by assignments set and marked by your tutors, and tasks and written examinations set and marked by Edexcel. Each individual unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) and Distinction (D).

During your course you will study a variety of units, here are just some that could be included: Mandatory: Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services (120 GLHs externally assessed), Teamwork, Leadership and Communication in the Uniformed Protective Services (120 GLHs, coursework assessed by internal IV & Assessor), Outdoor Activities and the Protective Uniformed Services (60 GLHs, coursework assessed by internal IV & Assessor), Expedition Skills (60 GLHs, coursework assessed by internal IV & Assessor).

5 GCSEs with a mixture of 9-4 grades (or equivalent) in at least four different subjects, including English Language and Mathematics (minimum grade 4).

The qualification is recognised by higher education institutions as fully meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses, in a variety of areas, in the Public Service sector.

After this qualification, you can progress directly to employment. However, it is likely that many will do so via higher study.

The course offers an insight into careers in the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services, Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Prison Service, Security Organisations, HM Customs, the National Health Service, and Social Work to name but a few.
