Biology A Level

The course comprises a combination of theory and practical lessons including some field study in appropriate units. Applications of Biological techniques, principles and research findings will be illustrated with everyday examples to make Biology relevant to the world around us. Practical work undertaken will support teaching of the content and will go towards the Practical Endorsement (recognised by Universities).

Independent study outside the lesson helps students broaden their understanding and expand their knowledge in preparation for the terminal examinations. Many of our lessons are also flipped, in short ensuring that students work on content outside of lessons and time in school is spent consolidating and extending this.

In addition to topic homework packs and end of topic tests, both of which will receive helpful SIR feedback, the first exams will be in the summer term leading to an AS qualification. If students continue the course into the second year they will have completed the full A level. All assessment is written exam based, covering content and practical skills. If students complete the full A level and have completed all practical skills they can qualify for an additional Practical Endorsement which is recognised by many Universities.

GCSE Grade 5 at Biology or 5/6 in combined Sciences.
