Course Summary

This qualification is aimed towards students who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of human biology, and for those who are interested in studying Human Biology or related course at university. By studying this course, you will develop effective communication and problem-solving skills and learn how to carry out research and present findings clearly.

Course Details

Over the course of the two years, you will study the fundamentals of Human Biology, Health and disease, Genetics, Biomedical techniques, the Brain and Human reproduction. This will be taught through a combination of theoretical and hands on practicals. You will have the opportunity to apply what you learn to real-life contexts such as, researching human biology fundamentals, creating and delivering presentations, planning and performing laboratory investigations that are associated with biomedical techniques.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

In year 1, you will have an externally assessed exam covering the fundamentals of human biology. You will also complete two NEAs, one covering Genetics, the second covering Biomedical techniques.

In year 2, you will have an externally assessed exam covering health and disease. You will also complete two NEAs, one covering Human reproduction and the second covering the brain.


Equipment required

As you will be taking part in practical activities, it is recommended that you buy your own lab coat and lab googles.

Subjects that may complement this course are A Level Biology, A Level Chemistry, AAQ in Applied Science, A Level Physical Education, AAQ in Health and social care. After studying this course, you may be able go onto study Biomedical Science, Human Biology, Life sciences and Biological Science degrees or perhaps go onto an Allied healthcare profession.
