Course Summary

An Access course gives you the opportunity to apply for a university degree. We offer Access to Medicine and Dentistry at our Brighton Campus and our focus at the MET is to give you the necessary skills to prepare you for your journey into higher education and a successful career in your chosen field.

If you didn't get the grades you needed, or you decided you'd like to continue your education, an Access course is for you. Students on the Diploma in Medicine and Dentistry course progress into careers in medicine, chemistry, engineering, physics, biomedical science, pharmacy, marine biology, dental therapy and hygiene.

This course will offer a prestigious, high-level and intensive learning experience with an ethos for excellence, and for this reason, Brighton and Sussex Medical School will offer a guaranteed interview for all students accepted onto this course.

"BSMS is very pleased to work with the MET to help to widen access to medicine and to ensure that the NHS has a vibrant and diverse workforce. We hope that the prospect of a guaranteed interview will encourage determined high quality applicants and inspire them to success on the course." Darren Beaney, Head of Admissions, BSMS.

As places at medical school are extremely competitive, this is a considerable advantage for those who are serious about a career in medicine.

This course meets the national QAA requirements and is accredited by LASER.

Entry requirements

Applicants will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 6 (B) or above.

If you have one of the GCSEs but not the other, you may take this alongside the Access course.

It will help your application if you have some relevant healthcare work experience but it is not essential.
